Saturday, July 10th 1993: West Yellowstone, MT to Ennis, MT or ... What do I have to wear?

Woops, my boss doesn't hear her alarm at 5:15 am! I'd better wake her up since I hear lots of noise outside and the numbers on the clock show 5:45!

It's still cold outside, but so far there are parts of blue sky to be seen. Breakfast is at the campsite: she enjoys 2 scones instead of the pancakes. But also sausages, eggs and potatoes (yup - morning potatoes) are on her plate.

We start out with Marilyn - first through town with a visit to the post office. The road towards Hebgen Lake is wide and it seems to go slightly downhill. Near the lake we notice some graylings - strange animals!

The weather seems to be getting better. My woman takes off the long pants and sweater. Clouds are drifting away - for a while. It's nice to cycle along the lake in this direction.

At the dam - and the downhill there - a cloud seems to be hanging in between the surrounding mountains. Brrr... cold again! The wind is picking up - yes - the headwind. Rain jacket out of the bag and back on the human body.

The ride along Earthquake lake is totally different too going this way.

My boss thinks it's not as nice this way, but I do enjoy the scenery a lot.

Too bad we are too late to watch the movie at the visitor center. Today is the day my boss changes her outfit frequently: now she has the pants back on - with two sweaters!

While cycling along the Madison River, my boss longs for the aid station. "We should have been there already?", I ask her. It's 6 miles further than expected.

Awesome: they serve hot chocolate! "That will warm you", I say to my boss.

The terrain after the aid station is slightly up- and more downhill. My boss is getting warmer and the jacket goes back in the bag and the trouser legs are rolled up. The wind is getting stronger every minute and my woman is looking out towards the water stop, which is also further than it should be.

The last 11 miles my boss chases Jim - but it's not possible to catch him. At last we reach the bridge over the Madison which brings us into Ennis. My boss thinks that kids use this bridge to jump into the river - when it's warmer.

At the school my boss pitches her purple tent.

We cannot go into the gym because there is a reunion planned. The oldest student of 1918 is here.

My boss goes to dinner with Ann and Steve (honeymooners), Steve, Deb, Marilyn and  some other cyclists. It's time for chicken pot pie, but my woman hardly finds any chicken in it.

We miss the meeting - good job!
